Muratic, Bleach, Borax and Baking Soda (and Muriatic Acid)
Muratic - Lowers pH
Borax - Raises pH
Baking Soda - Raises Alkalinity
Bleach - Liquid Chlorine - Sodium hypochlorite
You will also need conditioner since you are no longer getting it with the chlorine products...
Testing Kit with Conditioner Testing (CYA)
https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/bbb-method-for-pool-care
www.poolcalculator.com is suppose to be the place to go, but you have to download and app and give up your search engine prefs to use it? wtf is that...
CYA Problems
Too high and the only thing to do with confidence is drain pool and add water to dilute. Chemicals exist but they may cause a mess...
BBB you deal with pH and Chlorine and others are secondary.. (CYA
Ideal pH - 7.2 to 7.6
Muratic to Lower - Acid Demand Tables or...
Borax to Raise - 0.5 teaspoons per 26 gallons. to raise it ?? https://thepoolarea.com/bbb-pool-method/
Baking Soda - .5 teaspoons per 26 gallons to raise it ?? https://thepoolarea.com/bbb-pool-method/
Bleach - 2 teaspons per 26 gallons to raise it ?? https://thepoolarea.com/bbb-pool-method/
Calcium to be monitored in concrete pools...
Hi levels of these can not be fixed easily with chemicals. The pool must be drained to water down the problem.
CYA ideal is 30-50ppm
Calcium Harness ideal is 200-400ppm for pools and 150-250ppm for spas
https://poolonomics.com/lower-alkalinity-in-pool/
Hi alkalinity (may be due to hi calcium):
Irritates swimmers - burning eyes, itchy skin, degrades clothes and fabric prematurely
Reduces effectiveness of chlorine - just the nature of the chemistry
Creates cloudy pool - typiclaly b/c of calcium present
pH will be too high - lower pH can be done but it's harder with hi Alkalinity
Scaling can occur - Calcium deposits and damaged pool equipment and filtration systems
Muratic Acid - pH between 1 and 2
Turn OFF pump
Use digital test kit or strips to determine alkalinity (what about water kit?)
Typically, 25.6 oz of full strength acid to lower 10k gallons by 10ppm
Can dilute the acide 10:1 in water prior to adding to pool to make is safer for pool walls and such
Pour into deep end and let sit there for 1 hr
Turn pump back on and retest for alkalinity and pH
Dry Acid - Sodium Bisulfate
Safer but more expensive than muratic
Store in dry place
Measure like above
Fill bucket 3/4 water and add acid
Mix using wooden stir stick until acid dissolved. Undissolved will sink to bottom and eat pool
Carefully pour around perimeter starting at deep end
Retest
NOTE: doesn't say anyhing about the pump thing with liquid acide
To bring pH back up...
Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate)
Soda ash (raises Alkalinity more)
Aeration - adding oxygen
NOTE they don't mention Borax at all... which is the BBB method... Seems like an add for aerators...
